Victoria’s Chinatown, established in 1858, is Canada’s oldest and a significant part of Victoria’s cultural heritage.
It emerged during the Fraser River Gold Rush as a hub for Chinese immigrants working in mining, railroads, and agriculture.

Victoria’s Chinatown is now over 150 years old and with a spirit and vitality to continue "looking after our own," including our beloved Chinatown, it is important to focus now on ensuring that Victoria’s Chinatown endures and prospers for another 150 years. This requires determining what we have, where we must pay attention and diligently planning for the future.
